So somebody was asking me about flourocarbon leaders on braid, and I realized that I don't know nearly enough about leaders.
Basically, I have a couple rolls of Berkley Vanish. A 20lb roll and an 8lb roll. With my lighter combos (running anywhere from 6lb to 15lb braid) I will normally run the 8lb Vanish. For heavier stuff with 20lb-30lb braid, I will use the 20lb Vanish. Around 2', when I am fishing most lures.
Seems the 8lb flouro (specifically the knot at the lure) is always the failing point when I get a snag with 10lb-15lb braid. Same with the 20lb flouro on 20lb-30lb braid.
Do you guys normally run a heavier test flouro leader compared to your main line? I'm thinking it might be a good idea to grab some 12lb or 15lb flourocarbon line to run with the 10lb and 15lb braid. I have tried the 20lb Vanish with 15lb braid, but it seems like at that point, the leader is so much thicker than the braid main line. And it might just be me, but I doubt the visibility of the thin 15lb braid is that much more than the much thicker 20lb flouro. Plus the 20lb means much thicker knots which can hurt casting slightly. The 20lb braid also seems so stiff and heavy when I'm casting 1/8oz to 1/4oz lures from a lighter weight combo with 10lb-15lb braid.
