A tip for Scotland in general if you're relying on public transport like I always do is to factor is delays. It's not so bad in the cities, but once you start having to catch rural busses to get you to more remote locations they often dispense with any pretence of keeping to the schedule that may be on the bus stop or that you read online. The week I was on Skye I had a bus that was 45 minutes late and another time had to hitchhike because it didn't show up. The trains are more reliable, but prone to landslides and other weather-related mishaps. The citylink coaches are normally ok, only had one bad delay there I think.
