The reason this thread came about was from something that actually happened to me. I was on the road in the middle of nowhere, VA/WV in the Shenandoah valley, totally clear day in February, and a huge snow storm hit the valley, compressed in on itself and dumped like a mother fucker, visibility dropped to almost nothing, and I went off the road into a steep ditch because I couldn't see where the road curved. My phone was shattered when I went off the road and before long my entire car was covered in snow. I turned it off because I didn't know if I was leaking fuel, and didn't know if there was so much snow covering my car that I'd end up killing myself if the exhaust was backing up into my car. I was on this dead ass country road for 4 days, 3 nights. No one had any reason to think anything of it because I regularly go a week or more without calling anyone. It wasn't until the "state of emergency" was lifted and non emergency vehicles were allowed back on the road that someone finally found me.
I survived by staying with my car, using blankets that were in the back for my dogs, and climbing out of my car and cutting down a small tree with my folding saw, starting a small fire just outside the door of my car and melting snow to drink. That saw literally saved my life.
Would I have LIKED to have more stuff? Sure. I have a full pack of stuff in the back of my car including an ammo box full of freeze dried meals, a decent camp axe, my saw, and my EMT bag. Just trying to see how little you guys could survive on. My knife, saw and blankets were all I had and I survived. Had I been able to leave my car and go innawoods, I'd have been better off by far.
