I think it's a combination of the better weight distribution of a van that makes it that much better. I've been through some pretty gnarly mudpits that my buddy with a tacoma 4x4 struggled through, so I'd say it's pretty great.
Keep in mind that since it's AWD and not 4WD, there is no low range for rock crawling type shit, but a V8 will do the trick.
