Thicker line will not protect you from abrasion. Only line inspection can do that.
Personally I use Powerpro V2 Superslick and nothing else for braided mainline, with a backer to conserve line, and Seagur InvisX Fluorocarbon (the one marketed as a mainline is far more economical than the overpriced fluoro leader they sell, but its just as good and I replace leader material all the time thus justifying the spool. Replace leader, check for abrasion, replace if you're ever in doubt of a knot or a weird kink in the line)
8lb braid with 6,8 or 10 lb leader. 10lb braid with a 10lb or 15lb leader or 20lb braid with a 20 or 30lb leader, or a 30 or 45lb braid for heavy flip/punch/frog - those are the combos for most freshwater application and they work just fine unless you throw a super long, stiff rod like newer light surfcasting rods which will generate more force at the tip must use shock leader. I'm thinking of getting a Daiwa Inshore Saltist Coastal Spinning 9'M rod to throw 1/2 and 3/4 oz lipless crankbaits, spoons, and jointed plugs and other search baits that work. Probably a 20lb leader will be required but do experiments first.
Probably your knots or line are failing.
>>2466099size 3 generates too much lift for most of the local fast moving creeks with salmon/trout/smallmouth only size 2 blade will work unless you're throwing into slack water.
Number 3 willow blade also works for me. Pink is a winner, silver, gold. Number 5 in orange/gold/brown has brought in a fair number of pike.
