Question for my fellow fly faggots. Dry fly fishing small streams. I understand the fundamentals of where to fish, and how to properly work the water effectivly. Being that I’m a noob, and have only been at this a few months, I’m not sure when is an appropriate time to tie a dry fly on. Every time I’ve tried so far I only get the Redside Dace interested enough to have a go at it. Sometimes I’ll see a trout upstream of me and even when I get a great cast right up in front of it and drift it right over it’s head it doesn’t even so much as look at it. This has been a common trend every time I’ve tried. Should I wait to see rising trout to even consider tying one on? Say it’s around 1-2pm in the afternoon, am I waisting my time trying to get takes on drys?
