>>1626289>>1626305>>1626306Heh, point taken about mind reading. So...
H4n is available, has served well on plenty of occasions, already recorded some ambience, results are pleasing, a bit of noise on the low signal side, as already mentioned. It still is an improvement over a H2, which went through the same tasks (and which nevertheless impressed with well-planned stability in situations you would not expect to be handled by such a cheap thingy).
I'm tinkering about getting large condensors along the lines of AKG C3000s. I'm not sure if they would handle /out/ atmosphere at all or if they would turn to nice paper weights in a matter of days after being in the cold and / or high humidity.
Next would be a capable pre-amp. But i'm already aware of the huge price tag i'd have to expect. =(
Plus, yes, the setup would inevitably get far more bulky, i'd need some mounting rail, power might become a concern (which it isn't at this point, all Hx devices i know of ran well of Eneloop rechargeables).
On a barely related side note, i got a behringer ADI21 preamp for piezo recordings (has been recommended in an older thread around here), but found that it just adds unnecessary complications to the setup.
