Either way, it's best to just suck it up and not carry a gun with you unless you have dangerous predators or mexican cartel pot farmers in the camping area. You don't want to blow away a drunk guy or pop rounds off into the darkness because a deer is walking around outside your campsite and have Park Police get up in your shit.
The only really good way to get thru your first night alone in the woods is to get nice and drunk, build up your campfire, and make sure you bring a very bright flashlight.
