I also carry pic related on day hikes full of not depending on how much water I think I'll need, as it's good to have an extra container for the unknown, and weighs nothing empty. It perfectly fits a sawyer on it as well. Seriously, like it was made for it.
For my backpacking /multi-day trips I bring a 40oz clean canteen that fits perfectly inside my 700ml titanium pot. . You sure can boil water in it, and I love the 40 Oz because it's bigger than most bottles, and can boil 5 cups if water at a time. Good parents getting you that. I bought the 27oz last year, and replaced it with the 40 just recently.
