>camping with a new gf in autumn, northern US
>I've camped some but not much
>she wants to put a tarp under the tent to make it more comfortable
>never tried that before so I say okay
>the edges of the tarp go further than the edges of the tent (you can probably see where this is going)
>have a good time hiking and shooting all day
>go to sleep
>it rains, a lot
>water begins to accumulate in the tent until it's a couple inches deep
>she just climbs on top of me and goes back to sleep
>I lay there for hours on my back in the water, at least she is helping me keep my body temp above hypothermia
>wait until the sun comes up while she snores on top of me
>try to start a fire, it's still raining, she's staying in the tent
>get a little fire going with the embers from last night but between the wind and the wetness it's getting dangerously cold and the fire is not enough
>she's shivering pretty hard
>send her back to the car and tell her to start it and turn on the heat
>she's a runner so I figure she'll jog there and warm up, which she does
>I pack up camp and carry everything back
>the end
We went camping together many more times, but that first time was very unpleasant. It was a good learning experience, I guess.
