Me and my neighbours live at far outskirts of the city, with a meadow and forest full of deer/boars/foxes outside of our gardens. we've got guns, we can hunt. Our competition would be local farmers which I reckon would turn feral.
We can easily connect our houses and share defences. The only problem would be water - nearest rivers are approximately 4-5 km away (which also causes problem for fishing as a source of food). We'd have to divide our force during water/food runs, which would leave the house more vulnerable - obvious weakness that can be exploited by a cold, planning adversary. So all we can do is stock up on weapons.
