Final details on converting a wool turtleneck to a crew neck. I left the neck intact; there's a seam inside the neck, meaning it's probably not so easy to detach without cutting. Obviously cutting was out of the question anyway, being civilized.
I folded the neck down inside and used a buttonhole stitch
>>1993727 to make a mock turtleneck. Then I folded *that* down inside, leaving 1" of the neck past the seam. This is anchored down at 8 points, symmetric relative to the sweater shape (the front and back are somewhat different widths, front being the larger expanse).
Last night I had done a backstitch around the collar seam, but it wasn't flexible enough. With the discreet anchor points, there's plenty of room for lateral stress (pulling it over the head), and the neck is still tight enough not to become a saggy shit-hole in the foreseeable future.
