Digging on ghost towns is ok, most of the people aren't buried there. Sometimes I find a grave but not often.
It's a bit weird digging up stuff that belonged to people that died a long time ago I guess, but that's true of pretty much anywhere you hunt stuff older than a hundred years. Mostly it's interesting how completely different life was even in my grandparent's time. Just really low-tech and violent. Lots of bullets, lots of pocket watches.
