A mountain house pouch cost about the same, if you buy it in bulk (12 pouches like a case of MREs). Granted its about twice the size of the main entree item of the MRE its (subjectively but generally speaking) better tasting food but that certainly doesn't come close to hooking you up with everything the MRE gives you. Not to mention at least for me variety is a huge plus. I also typically eat an MRE parts at a time and with the mountain house you got to prepare the whole thing at once more or less.
By the way, this isn't a diss at mountain house, I like there stuff for what it is. Its just not at a price point that competes with an MRE directly.
