About five years ago an ex-gf set me up with one of her friends who liked doing /out/ activities especially hiking. We met, hit it off really well, but my job required me to work at a client site for a year so I never got the chance to pursue her. When the project with out client ended, the hiking girl had already found someone else to date. They got married about a year ago. From social media it looks like his idea of /out/ is grilling on the back deck. He's fat and apparently loves watching sports but not doing anything active. She complains frequently about not having anyone to go hiking with.
What may have been if I told my employer I wasn't willing to live in Grapevine, Texas for a year doing stupid intranet crap for a travel company that ultimately made no difference in the world? Maybe a relationship would have developed or maybe things would have fizzled out. At least I'd know.
Never let your job steal a year of your life. It's not worth it.
