Black bears are not a threat to you unless you mess with them, and walking into a bullmoose means you need to take the air pods out and pay better attention. The best answer for these situations is a shotgun, buckshot or slug. If you want a handgun for pushing it larger medium game, then a .357 or .44 would be good for low maintenance since you would be a first time gunz. As much as I love 10mm, it's not advice for this situation. Shotgun is probably lowest price of entry and DPS
