>>841973I have tried everything in those situations. The beetle spin was actually getting a ton of attention. They were going for the orange minnow instead of the blade so that wasn't an issue. Sometimes inlines work, sometimes they just scare the fish away with the clear water and sun so they aren't always the best choice for those waters.
And the trick worm thing is interesting with what you mentioned. The lake down the street from my house, right around sunset the baifish come to the top and start trying to eat bugs and there are always bass right behind them. I can throw cranks, swimbaits, topwater, spinners, etc to try and mimic the baitfish and they won't hit it. I Texas rig a lizard, worm, or craw, throw it right by the baitfish, and the bass go right for that. Whenever I see that situation with the baitfish feeding and the bass lurking nearby, worms and creature baits on the bottom nearby seem to work better than trying to replicate the baitfish.
Pic related, this guy was chasing around some baitfish in real shallow water and making a bunch of commotion. Threw a limetruese trick worm out and he would immediately go for the worm when it came close and ignore the fish. Seems like they are already hungry and would rather hit the easy meal.
I also kept throwing the trick worm anyway because I was hoping for bigger bass and not trying to get the cichlids anyway. I should've gone back to that lake tonight:
