>>2365332>>2361561Semi-arid desert is semi-arid precipitation regime with desert flora and not plains flora. Most of the southwest US semi-arid regions west of the continental divide are exclusively desert flora, especially when they are below 5,000ft elevation. The koppen system is usually spot on for most places in the world, except when it comes to parts of North America. Two prime examples are the Arizona Mediterranean climate (wet late summers/monsoon completely uncharacteristic of normal med climates in the koppen system) and the intermountain west semi-arid climates (BSh and BSk) which are exclusively desert flora, additionally even the arid Sonoran desert has flora that would be considered uncharacteristic of a desert according to the koppen system even though parts of the Sonoran desert are lush with flora and is perarid at the same time. Pic related is BSh.
Another example of the koppen system having cracks in it (especially in the American west) is when using the temperature isotherms, depending on which isotherm you choose to use half of Arizona's high country forests are either mediterranean (Csb and Csa), med-influenced continental (Dsb and Dsa), or humid continental (Dfb and Dfa) the classification arbitrarily changing depending on which isotherm and precipitation regime is chosen.
