>>2310889I did "The Big Bend Trip" twice when I was young and it seriously gave me some of the most memorable /out/ moments of my life, and most memorable moments of my life in general. I find it to be criminally underrated but more and more people seem to be finding out about it.
Outside the park - Starlight theater in Terlingua, Fort Davis, Mcdonald Observatory (make sure to do the star party), just any and all of Marfa
Inside the park (its been a while since I went backpacking there so might wanna check up on my info) - The Window hike is short iirc and its pretty worth it. I did an overnight backpacking trip probably 10 yrs ago now and remember there were some super great views off to the west(?), but all i remember about the campsite location was it didnt have water so you had to pack it all in or bring purification gear. Theres also some ancient native american sites in the park (pretty sure one got vandalized recently though) that are worth checking out.
I cannot stress this enough - Big Bend it totally worth it. Its hot, there are snakes, its got a fairly nice hotel right there in the park, it isnt too busy bc first two reasons, and it has some great views. The drive in is insane too bc you have hours of flat fucking texan great shit plains cow land and then signs of civilization drains away from the ride and the landscape becomes more and more rugged and desolate. Its weirdly beautiful and I wish it was feasible to live in the area year round.
Be wary of the javelinas
