I cannot stand that shit and think that people who plant it intentionally should be beaten on the soles of their feet. Dealing with bindweed is easier if you keep up with it.
This year I'm trying winter rye as a cover crop to try to combat it next spring. I'll let everybody know how it works out. I too have heavy clay soil, and to remove bermuda, you either have to spray it, keep it in the shade, nuke it with black cloth/plastic, or pull it up when the soil is wet enough to let you get most of the roots.
