Really can't help ya... i went the college route, been in the industry since high school. While most of my classmates flipped burgers or delivered pizzas, I was measuring 3dB filter rolloff frequencies. Only power engineering courses I did was a brief intro and couple days in the power lab in the basement of the engineering building.
Knock out as much gen-ed courses as you can at a community college. Make sure it'll transfer, get it in writing. MUCH cheaper that way, if you want to go university degree.
