And honestly- don't cheat yourself. Get a smaller 3&1/2 to 4 inch thin bladed knife for the usual camp chores like cutting food & rope. Then get a good 7-9" knife for chopping branches & boughs, splitting kindling etc. Anything bigger? Get a hatchet or an axe.
You could get a big honkin' Bowie style knife with a 10-12" blade, but truly as cool looking as they are, they have very little real value or use in real life.
