>>1839509If you have a chainsaw and some bits of wood you can make wood shavings easily. I find them to be the best litter material. You can rake it over every couple of days and then add extra over the top every few week. Keep adding over the course of 6 months to a year, then start over again. The old stuff makes great addition to your compost pile. Even if you can't make wood shavings yourself, this method uses very little - A 40l bag should last you 6 months to a year.
Chickens like to scratch at the ground and sun bask. Denying them both of those things is gonna lead to unhappy chickens and low egg production. If you can build a moveable coop/run, shifting it around your garden is a good way to keep them contained while letting them do some of their chicken stuff.
