And mine is cutting sausage slices. Indeed, the average hiker/camper/backpacker/whatever needs a small folder at best.
/out/ has an identity problem. People here think they're all bros and do the same thing, but it's not the case, and worst thing is, they give those different things the same names. It's like everyone is a hiker/camper/backpacker, even if some go mainly to walk travel around and see nice places, some go mainly for specific activities like hunting, fishing or climbing, and some go mainly for bushcrafting and survival.
Indeed, actual backpackers don't really need a knife, as they'll hardly get in dangerous situations. Few actually do, and not only I seriously doubt they're all concentrated on this board, they also take much more precautions than carrying a knife. Carrying a knife pretty much equals avoiding hiking under air traffic lanes in fear that a plane falls on your head.
I myself take quite a lot of risks, as I go on long hikes in foreign countries far from touristic areas, and often find myself surrounded by locals, and run into some quite aggressive animal and insect life. Still, I use pic related Douk Douk for everything.
It's like the ideal backpacking knife, it's cheap, sturdy, very light, doesn't pose any law related problem as it's non-locking, it's easily concealable otherwise, and if you ever go in a former French colony, you'll make friends simply pulling it out.
