>>2054468My father was a merchant mariner. Honestly mate, from what I can scrape together seems like it could be worthwhile, a lot to shit to ruminate upon though. A big one is lack of good medical service upon ships, for instance my father my got kidney stones and he had one so big that he had to go mainland to get surgery, unfortunately the ship left without him... and he got stuck in America. Also a lot of time to just think when you aren’t working. He also got up to some silly pulp adventures such as getting chased by an indian man for (not) stealing a bike, and buying a monkey that destroyed his boombox. Then again, that was the Turkish merchant marines circa 1970’s, so I can’t say it would be a 1:1 today.
