>>2630780I mostly hike and camp around the lakes, but I've been once to Snowdonia. The mountains here aren't like in Japan, but they're still fun. I think Snowdonia is more challenging than most of the Lakes, but there both different landscapes to Japan since Japan is lastly seismic and volcanically formed mountains, while in Britain its more formed by glaciers scraping out valleys during the ice age. In Scotland you have more legal rights to roam and camp than & can make camp fires.
The Lake District has a few 'honeypots', places that attract a LOT of tourists during the summer months and can get congested (areas around Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere especially)
