A lot of times I just make sure there's not rocks or roots under my tent (if I use one) before I set it up. I use a cheap old foam pad for long trips, though, and when it's cold enough out to warrant a little insulation. The comfiest thing I've used though, other than my father's Cabela's cot w/ mat, is pic related.
