I have a good stick story so this thread is kind of a relief for me as I must unburden myself. Switching to greetecks:
>be me
>2009
>camping out all the time in my parents' acres (they own about 100 acres of a 2000 acre wood)
>out there one night and decide I need a good fire pokin' stick
>find two silver birch saplings nearby, both growing from the same root
>saw one of them down, debark, smooth, etc
>have the best walking/fire-pokin' stick I've ever had
>keep it in the woods for 2 years and use it every time I'm /out/
>stays outside in a safe place summer, winter, all four seasons
>move away in late 2010
>gone for 3 years
>things fell through and I moved back to hometown in 2013
>go out innawoods for another campout
>see my stick still there right where I left it
>much smaller now after all the use, the end slowly burning etc
>also grey and half rotting from years of neglect
>go right back to the root where I cut it from
>cut down his brother sapling and do the same thing
>ceremoniously burn my first stick and pass the torch, so to speak, to his brother
>use this stick for every goddamn campout for 4 years
>move away again in 2017
>bring this second stick into the house and store it in the basement with my old hockey sticks
I've been gone since 2017 but when I get back to visit I can't wait to pull him down from the rafters and bring him on another campout
Pic is both sticks together, right before I burned the old one. Fuck it's a small thing in life but I love a good fire stick and this one has sentimental value like fuck.
