Seems to me that traditional bee hives have a long slot at the bottom edge, (oldy timey rope hives having one hole)
with the actual hive hanging down inside.

and such that if the hive becomes too warm, they'll position several bees at the entrance who will buzz their wings to
drive air into the hive (a kinda manual air conditioning).
I'd suggest positioning the hive so it gets some morning sunlight to warm them up and get them going but shaded so
that by around noonish, it's isn't over-heating.
