I know it might sound weird to you, anon, but some of your friends on /out/ may have different hobbies than you. You like might like to hike, fish, and hunt. OP may like to prep, run, and take pictures. Neither of you are wrong, you just like different things. And that's just fine.
The one thing you can agree on is that water purification is important to both of your hobbies. It can help both of you enjoy your time much more. So, even though you don't like to participate in OP's hobby, maybe you could offer some advice if you know a little more than he does.
