Update on the viviparous strawberry. It has grown into this big leafy mess, about 1 1/2 inchest from the end of the runner to the farthest leaf. There is no apparent fruit body inside, as vivipary occurred before the fruit began forming (before the flower even opened, really). The runner attached to it is about twice the diameter of others. All this leads me to believe that vivipary occurred because the plant was hyoer-focused on vegetative growth, as I had cut it back and fertilized it after a long drought and it needed to grow from the root/crown all over again.
Second photo shows another fruit that formed a few days before the leafy one. It looks a bit strange, but is at least attempting to grow into a berry. All other developing berries and flowers on the plant appear normal, and the plant itself is large and green and seems healthier than it ever did before getting cut back.
>>2702220Congratulations anon! Sounds like you're about to have lots of room to expand, and just in time for this year's season.
>>2703424Is that plant the same size as the others in your pics? I wouldn't worry about re-potting at that size, despite the adventurous root. Although if you decide to do it, it will probably handle it just fine as long as you move the entire chunk of dirt, so as not to disturb the plant much.
>>2703484Herbs and small root vegetables are great for apartment growing, and it's super satisfying to cut off fresh basil to throw on a pizza or whatever. I want to put more pots outside and expand my light setup this year to make room for more variety.
