you can stick them anywhere, but it's best if you can use some large garden stakes (getting some thick wire and folding your own is many times cheaper than buying them) just to pin them close to the soil so they can root
the runners will also produce more from themselves so you could have 2-3 more plants from just one shoot
if you put them in pots, you can root multiple runners together....pic related were just grown from this season
(if you do put them into a different container or let them grow to the ground, they do need some time to establish themselves before you should sever the connection to the main plant...give it 2-3 weeks at least)
