I also have a 525 enduro, much smaller (less than half the weight) bike.
The 1190's great, i've got a lot of work into it (suspension, regearing, and protection (skid plate, side stand relocate, crash bar reinforcement, subframe reinforcement)) to make it more dirt-capable. It's still a 600+lb motorcycle, with more power than anything on dirt should have. Breaks traction real easy, 1st gear is still too high in technical terrain, and if you're not at speed it'll overheat pretty quick.
The 525's a cheater bike compared to the 1190. It's still got plenty of power, but it's a lot more controllable and forgiving when you're abusing it offroad. I've got a lot of years riding dirt bikes/enduro/dualsport, so the 1190 wasn't too much of a jump for me and I knew what I needed to do to it to make it into what I wanted it for.
If it's your first bike, I'd recommend a dirt bike/dualsport first. Learn the fundamentals of riding offroad, and learn on something that's not gonna cost a fortune to repair. Dirt bikes crash pretty well.
If you're dead set on something adventurey, might look at the 790/890 class. They're still gonna be heavy offroad, but they'll do it a little more gracefully than a liter+ bike will.
I've done 300+ mile days on the 525 before. It's a lot, and you have virtually zero wind protection on the highway which wears you out quickly. I can do 300+ on the 1190 and while it's still a good day, it eats the miles a lot more comfortably at the expense of offroad performance.
