Are composting toilets actually worthwhile or just a dumb meme for fake cosmopolitan hippies?
I was thinking about getting an Air Head when I move into my yurt rather than hooking up a septic system, because I'm going to be making a big garden anyways, and if this actually makes good compost it would just sort of kill two birds in one stone. But the thing is, does it? I mean, you empty it out after every sixty shits, fine, but how do the last few compost at all? Are there normally two copies of the solids tanks that you swap out, and once one is full you swap the second in and just crank the handle on the full one a few times a day for the next sixty days for it to finish breaking down?
I don't know where I'd get sawdust from, but I hear you can use peat moss too. How much do I put in, and is it a good composting medium for this? Can I just use regular topsoil instead, or maybe leaves and wood ash?
Will it actually be safe and worth using as compost and no longer smell overwhelmingly like shit, and how much dirt should I mix it with?
