>>1813085Triangle area, NC. I've noticed some will come up in mossy areas near little streams, which seems odd given what I've heard about their usual habitats. Others I have found in more of what I would think of as a typical area for chanterelles: mixed-but-predominantly-hardwood forest and drier soil. Really I think I just got lucky, decided to wander out in the woods after it had rained to see if anything had come up and they were there. Earlier than I was expecting, too.
>>1813066Congrats. I've never seen any in the wild, but I have some growing in a pot from some tubers my dad gave me. He got some back probably in the late 80s or early 90s from some agricultural program at a university. They're tenacious little bastards. I neglected to water that pot for like 6 months over the winter and spring and I figured they'd be dead for sure, but I started watering them in a kind of vain hope anyway and up they came within a week or so (pic is them now).
>>1810055>>1808906Even if you can't find pawpaws out in the wild, go to farmers markets and look around. Check if there are any local events about pawpaws where you live. Do everything in your power to find these things and eat them. They are far and away the most delicious fruit I have ever eaten and I will evangelize the living fuck out of them to everyone I meet.
