In my experience outside of hemlock, which is pretty rare in most places due to it being destroyed on sight, yew is the thing you most need to be careful with kids. Most toxic plants are so bitter or astringent a child would spit out before any harmful amount. Yew berries however look very appealing and are actually quite sweet and tasty. At least the gooey flesh around is, the pit inside as well as every other part of the plant is one of the most toxic you will find. Just a single berry if swallowed whole would seriously injure or kill a child, and kids rarely do things once especially when they find it's sweet and tasty. A handful would kill any adult and there's no real antidote. And since they're lush and evergreen and the berries are pretty it's a common ornamental. Other than not fucking with mushrooms, that's one of the only plants you really need to worry about. Anything big and carroty looking certainly avoid if you can't identify, none are quite as bad as hemlock but there are some nasty ones. Even parsnip leaves can be a problem.
