I’ve got a few cameras, Sony, Canon, Panasonic and take one out depending on sports/landscape/compact/waterproof/compromise. At the end of the day, try to demo a couple and just get what you prefer.
Try to make sure it has manual/priority modes though. Aperture and Speed priority with manual iso are all you really need in most situations. Plus a polarising filter and variable ND filter for lush waterfalls. I mainly use my compact for portability, but I do like to have my toys.
