>>1163338You've got reasonably good chances of meeting someone who speaks German in Southern Transylvania because that's where the Transylvanian Saxons settled, and Romanians are quite fond of Germans, so German remains prestigious language to know. Also Southern Transylvania is Romania's most popular tourist destination, so German is an important language for the service industry. Plus there are Romanians who learn German for economic prospects, partciularly among the younger generation.
And there's always the chance of encountering one of the couple of thousands Saxons who still live in the area.
In other regions your odds of finding someone who's conversational in German are as low as for English, though.
