That woman took the gondola to the Klein Matterhorn and then presumably started walking toward the Breithorn which is only 300 vertical meters higher than the station itself. Pic related shows the lift station and the Breithorn in the background. There is also all year round skiing on that glacier (known commercially as the "Matterhorn glacier paradise") so taking a stroll there probably isn't as dangerous as that article makes it out to be.
