>>2201739Me, my brother, his wife and mine will be taking over 54 acres in the next year or two. Fingers crossed we can handle it, but are starting smallish and using a lot of the land as it is now but improving the forest ecosystem, diversifying things and what not. We're planning several large hugelkulture mounds, which I am really looking forward to making bigger and bigger ones.
>>2201108>>2201739And as for tomato seed saving, just drying on paper towel will work but it's prone to transmitting disease. So the seeds will sprout just fine but the plants won't always be the healthiest and with tomatoes that's one of the biggest challenges. Fermenting clears up at least that part of disease transmission and it takes a while but otherwise isn't much more work. I have some going now so here's an example. Saving the seeds of some weird looking tomato from a farmer's market.
So choose the tomato you want* then scoop the seeds out and rinse them to get excess flesh and gunk off. Put them in a little jar or something with some water, cover lightly and leave in it a dark cool place for a week or two (I've forgotten some for months and they turned out fine). In the end you'll have something that looks nasty like this.
