I master-reset mine about once a year... always seems to work better after that.
Once all the map colors were wacky... wasn't a setting that got changed, something just went nuts. Water was white, land was green instead of yellow, text wasn't legible... master-reset, let it index the map database again, all back to normal.
2-3 minutes isn't too bad, when you don't have any outside assistance (AGPS on phones, where it can download almanac/ephemeris info over the data connection, and approximate location from the cell network, for example). My 76 takes about that long if it's been off for a few days.
