It's fun as fuck. New york isn't known for gold because of it's geology but also because by law any gold or silver you find you have to hand over to the state. There have been gold mines scattered throughout the state though. One in my town. In new york, if anyone finds gold, because of that law no one's going to report it so I think that's part of the reason why New York isn't known as a gold bearing state. I've been going to an island in my town and collecting sand from its shores to pan back at my house because there's a lot of gold looking particles in that sand and that sand happens to be black. The yellow shiny particles i'm finding are most likely mica and pyrite but I'm confident that peppered in there is some gold like in pic related. (the white looking specs look gold to the eye in the sun but the two gold looking specs i'm pretty sure are gold)
