Well, this is what remains of my incredible volunteer pumpkin and butternut plants. This is the devastation wrought upon by horrible triple threat combination of squash bugs, powdery mildew, and bad weather. Look upon this empty patch and despair.
For real though, let this be an image of caution for all future pumpkin/squash growers. You have no fucking idea the absolute utter number of squash bugs I've killed this season. No matter how many I kill, the next day it was as if I had killed none at all. So, so evil. Never let it get this bad.
Anyways, these pumpkins seem to be about as ripe as they're gonna get. Plant is alive, but only barely. I was thinking about leaving them on the vine till the end of the week, though I'm not entirely sure. Don't want any other bugs or slugs to get to it before me. Any thoughts? Tonight or later?
In any case, I got my other ones growing in the garden space now. A few Luminas and a couple Jack-O-Lanterns. Seems like I've held off the mildew long enough now as well as battled off the squash bugs that they should grow without a problem throughout this month and probably October too.
