There's mainly cottontail here where I live. Their pelts are rather unique because it bunches up in black tips which lessens their practical usage but they're soft nonetheless. Half the time the meat tastes like dogshit but I soak it in saltwater then buttermilk to make it edible. At some point you'll begin experimenting with hide preservation. Last week I just poured salt on it and left it for two days. Recently I just put it in saltwater and am waiting a few days for it to cure. Very interested in the results.
