For years I did winters here in England wearing just a cotton hoodie. A t-shirt, jeans, no undies half the time, and no socks because washing socks is too much work. I must have done 5-8 straight winters that way, through a lack of self-care mostly, I guess I just didn't give a fuck in my 20s. But now I wear just a thin quilted jacket and I feel warm enough to go most places on the colder days. It made me tough in my mind and I don't regret it - dealing with being very cold to the point where it's not uncomfortable must build some character - but now I wonder why I never tried on a real coat as well.
