It all depends on your troop. Some troops are really active and do 2 trips a month and a high adventure trip every so often, some just have regular weekly meetings and do jack shit. I love the BSA and I still help out with my troop, I think it's a great way to teach kids the patrol method, how to be reliant and solve problems on their own.
Our Eagle Scout projects are no joke either, I put about 1000 hours into my project, which was a boat dock and launch at a local park.
