Do be careful cutting them off living trees though, especially if it's a larger burl, if you damage the cambium layer badly enough you can kill the tree.
Suppose there would be no harm in having a hunt through the thousands of you ones that have been harvested. If you can maybe get friendly with a few of the guys driving the timber trucks? If they see any nice ones they might leave them to the side for you so you have time to spot them and cut them off. Keep hunting Anon, I'd send you some if I could!
