>>2649265>This is neat but how much do those cost compared to normal pots?Unreasonably much if you buy them, but DIY solutions come out to pretty cheap:
Bucket: 2€
Drainage pipe with holes, cut to size: 1.5€
Landscaping cloth/some cloth to wrap around the ends: ~2€, I recycled old clothing and some mosquito nets, so that was free.
PVC pipe as long as the bucket is tall with an angled end: 0.5€
Some pearlite (optional): 2-3€
Totalling around 8€/bucket which is massively cheaper than my old terracotta pots. Granted those looked nicer than a black plastic bucket with a pipe sticking out the top, but these are much more functional. You can pretty easily and cheaply DIY any pot or container into a sip once you understand the system, I've seen people make their garden beds into SIPs before.
Pic related, it's how it all looks before the perlite and soil is added. Opposite side of the PVC pipe, there's a hole in the bucket for overflow, with a little space to allow for soil aeration.
