Even if these things don't get ripped open, the innards are gonna be full of punctures and saliva, most of your food is gonna be inedible regardless. Same thing with most bear canisters.
We use one of these guys most of the time when canoeing in the backcountry. 30L or 60L for more people. Although there are instances of bears tearing into these things, I think it's the most 'bear resistant' you can get, when putting it up in the tree.
Obviously for long hikes and stuff, it'd be hella uncomfortable to take this thing. I usually just hang my food anyways.
