Also you said very mild weather, but then I don't get the bivy bag, bivy bag is when you need to hunker down because of weather change in the mountains and you're UL and don't have a tent. It's shit but it ensures survival. If you have a good tarp and know how to pitch you can weather out every summer storm and still have a nice and breezy place during good weather. If there is a lot of mosquito you have to deal with that (net, ddt, skirts). Other than that tarp is great because light and adaptable to weather.
